Garbage/Recycling

Big's Sanitation is a family-owned and operated business that has been serving the region for more than two decades. The company is located on Route 51 North, but all customer service issues can be completed by phone at 724-379-4331 or online.

Holiday Schedule

The holiday scheduling for trash and recycling pickup affects customers whose service falls on a holiday. The entire week will be one day behind when a holiday falls on a Monday. When the holiday falls on any other day, the only days that will be affected are those following the holiday within the holiday week. If the holiday falls on a weekend, there will be NO DELAY.

Big's Sanitaiton is closed on the following holidays; New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

Recycling

Please join McKeesport's recycling effort, which keeps garbage collection costs down while improving our environment. Every recycled item reduces the amount of trash hauled to the landfill by our provider, Big's Sanitation. That reduction reduces our landfill deposit costs and allows us to be an environmentally responsible community.

McKeesport participates in single-stream recycling, which means residents can dispose of paper, cardboard, plastics No.1-7, and aluminum or bi-metal cans by placing everything in a single bin according to the 2023 Recycling Schedule (PDF).

Commercial, municipal and institutional establishments must develop a system for separating high-grade office paper, aluminum, corrugated paper, leaf waste, clear glass or plastic. Proof that any or all of these materials have been recycled must be submitted with an annual report outlining the number of tons recycled.

Leaf Collection & Recycling

The City of McKeesport offers leaf collection services. Residents are asked to sweep fallen leaves into curbside piles for pickup (separate from other household waste), scheduled by calling Tina Lust in the Public Works Department at 412-675-5020, ext. 631. Leaves and other yard waste are collected and donated to local nurseries.
