Recycling
Please join McKeesport's recycling effort, which keeps garbage collection costs down while improving our environment. Every recycled item reduces the amount of trash hauled to the landfill by our provider, County Hauling. That reduction reduces our landfill deposit costs and allows us to be an environmentally responsible community.
McKeesport participates in single-stream recycling, which means residents can dispose of paper, cardboard, plastics No. 1 & 2, and aluminum or bi-metal cans by placing everything in a single bin according to the
2022 Recycling Schedule (PDF). Please note that recycled items must be completely free of food waste. For example, items such as pizza boxes are NOT recyclable because the cardboard is tainted with grease and food waste.
Commercial, municipal and institutional establishments must develop a system for separating high-grade office paper, aluminum, corrugated paper, leaf waste, or plastic. Proof that any or all of these materials have been recycled must be submitted with an annual report outlining the number of tons recycled.
