McKeesport welcomed visitors from across the Mon Valley to enjoy the 56th annual Salute to Santa parade on November 20.

Each year, the city kicks off the holiday season with this exciting procession of student groups, marching bands, community organizations, local officials, and public safety vehicles. The last fire truck, of course, always carries Santa Claus. This year’s grand marshal role celebrated the partnership between the DICK’s Sporting Goods Foundation and the McKeesport Area School District, with students from Twin Rivers Elementary School’s AIMS Program sharing the spotlight during the parade.

“The Salute to Santa Parade has established a longstanding tradition in McKeesport,” Mayor Michael Cherepko said. “Each year, spectators from across the Mon Valley line Fifth Avenue in downtown McKeesport to watch our procession of holiday floats, marching bands, dance troupes, fire trucks, and more. Sadly, COVID prevented our 2020 event from taking place, but we are happy to have brought this tradition back in 2021 and thankful for the many organizations who make this event special each and every year.”
